Oh Canada!

I'm feeling somewhat patriotic tonight. Can't exactly say why, probably spurred on by the Olympics - but I just had to say there are things I love about this place.

We have politicians you make fun of - and it doesn't so much matter what political party they are from; everyone is fair game. Its a guarantee they are idiots if they are politicians...of course, that might just be me, not every Canadian!

We have newsmen who are ugly. Not just kind of ugly - but realllly ugly. The kind of face that would scare you if they woke you up in the morning and yet - there they are, on tv. And saying very intelligent things and we listen - we don't care that they are ugly.

We have Frank and Gordon. Who are they? Even the average Canadian might not know who they are - they are new to the world...they are the beavers who are mascots for Bell Canada during the Olympics. Their commercials are hilarious. I am really enjoying them and you can meet them at frankandgordon.ca - there's a link on the sidebar! "Don't you think a beaver and a toque are a bit redundant?"

We have Corner Gas. Its a great show. Its great because I know people like this. I live in a town like this...well, my town used to be like this - now its a bit bigger, but I remember this town. It pokes fun and our uniqueness and I love it. It makes me laugh.

We have loonies and twoonies. Yes, they are only one dollar and two dollars respectively (though you probably could have figured out the 'twoonie') and you'd think that really isn't such a big deal - but I can't tell you how exciting it is for you to reach into your coat pocket thinking, man! all I've got is a pocket full of change and then when you count it out you've got fifteen dollars. What could be sweeter?

I suppose my patriotism won't last too long - because that's another thing we have here in Canada - apathy. We aren't moved to much emotion, good or bad, about our country so when it does come, I think its something we need to celebrate. So celebrate I will!

Hahaha, I'm Canadian too... I occasionally have a blast of patriotism like you, but then I realize that it's FEBRUARY and I'm FREEZING and it passes.

The news anchor thing is true too, but Lloyd from the CTV national news isn't so bad. He reminds me of people's grandfathers. Very comforting. (I must say though, you forgot to mention Degrassi [the original and the new one] both of which I live for!)

Good post!

(You may know me as CYW_College_Girl from the boards, in case you're wondering who this random person is and why she's posting on your blog, LOL)
