again with the penguins?

but seriously - its almost eerie. We recently had a umm, oh, mishap with our satellite remote control. One of our dear sweet children spilled water on it and didn't tell us so by the time we discovered it wasn't working - it was nearly toast.

K took it apart, cleaned it out and dried it but it still wouldn't work. We soon discovered that to replace this old remote would cost nearly as much as getting an entire new satellite receiver so being the cheap thing that I am - I quickly decided we'd only be able to change the tv from the family room.

Well, that didn't thrill K so he consulted various friends and decided the best thing to do would be to bake the remote in the oven for a short period of time. I don't understand why - but it worked! Once heated up, as long as it was kept warm, it worked. We found that if we laid it close to our bodies, under the bedsheets, it could stay warm enough for hours. Brilliant!

And - being not only cheap but basically lazy - I discovered there was no need to put the remote in the oven (which requires going down to the kitchen, heating the oven up, waiting for it to 'cook' and then back upstairs). I found heating the remote on my blow dryer's highest setting for a minute or so did the trick.

K and I would then spend the evening carefully passing the remote between our bellies so that it would stay warm enough that neither of us would have to get our sorry asses out of the bed. Hence - yet another eerie similarity to emperor penguins.

sadly...its all over now anyway. K heated the remote in the oven tonight and promptly forgot about it - only to discover its grotesquely melted body a few minutes too late. Funeral services will be held Friday at noon.
