blessings

sunrise on a 0415 call
a job where my skills are more important than unbrushed teeth and unwashed hair

fog rising off a slough
mama and papa duck wandering safely off the road; out for a morning walk together
a cocky pheasant atop a fence post

and home again - birds, birds, birds and the chirping and whirring symphony
one bird - yellow breasted
up to the maple tree just out back
i wonder why and am rewarded to see her bring a worm to a fluffy nest

a tree big enough to house a family

again and again she flies to the wet earth
and allows me to observe - like some old woman in a restaurant who smiles at me as i help my children cut their meat

a friendly smile from my dogs when i walk them to the pen

i am blessed
