Brave girl
Tonight, my eldest, A told me about how she was sitting by a playground, resting after running at track practice. She said as she sat there she noticed this teenage boy rocking a playground toy that a little girl was sitting on. He started rocking it harder and harder until the little girl flipped out over top of the toy and landed face first into the gravel. She saw the teenage boy pick the girl up and since, she was crying he grabbed her and covered her mouth.
When she saw that she got up and went over to him and asked him what he was thinking. She told him to have some responsibility and that first of all he should be taking care of the little girl and making sure she doesn't get hurt instead of hurting her. She sat with the little girl until she stopped crying and felt a little better.
I asked her what he did when she did this - my concern for her and my concern for the little girl. She said he didn't really know what to say.
When the little girl was quiet and had gotten up to play again, A started walking back to the track practice. She could hear the teenage boy mumbling under his breath and she turned to him and said: Oh, don't even start. Don't bother.
Then, my brave girl, walked back to practice and answered her stunned and worried teacher's questions about what had just happened.
