Today we had a bit of a break from work - an hour of 'learning to balance stress, work and home'. Seemed as though something I could definitely use.
It was very good to hear that so many other people are in the same boat. Such is the health care field and our particular city as well. But there was something bigger that I picked up from this session.
A coworker of mine was pretty angry about these motivational emails that our boss sends out. They are part of a bigger project to improve our workplace and make things better. Its having the exact opposite effect on her. She hates them with such a passion that she claims if she has to see another one she'll spit and that if she chooses to read something motivational than that's fine but she doesn't want this shoved down her throat.
I'm not that fond of them either - I rarely have any that mean much to me; but still, I delete them and move on. I tried to explain that perspective to her and she said that someone once told her that if her perception is that they are that way then they are that way whether someone tells her differently or not.
True.
But you own your emotions. Carry on. Move past it. Roll your eyes.
But outrage over motivational emails?
That was a heavy reminder - much of my stress is self inflicted. Choice. Choose to let it go.
