omg - NO!!

I just read somewhere (somewhere very reliable, a reliable newsite...really) that HIGH waisted jeans are trying to make a comeback.

omg. no.

First - I didn't enjoy 80s fashion when I was in the 80s. I didn't enjoy the music particularly and I really didn't much like the fashion. That didn't stop me from wearing things like leg warmers, stirrup pants and fluorescent t-shirts. And my hair was curly and my glasses were big monstrocities and I wore big sweaters with big thick belts.

But there came a day when I decided I'd rather be rebellious than conformist and so I became grunge before grunge was cool. I searched out the vintage clothing stores in the seediest parts of cities to find men's Levis that might be small enough to fit my small frame. They never did but it mattered not since baggy jeans were my favourite. I wore men's button down shirts and black shoes. It was my teenage uniform.

And then as I grew up a little and eventually got married and pregnant - I continued to wear these low waisted, comfortable jeans and the styles started to change to favour that everywhere. Seems my comfort had caught on.

I happily slid into the realm of 'relatively hip' and 'looking good for having kids' (there's a whole post about that subject but I'll save it for another day). I no longer had to search the darkest of basement stores for jeans I found comfortable. They started designing them like this and I started buying them.

Low waisted (not no-waisted or ultra-low waisted because those are just obnoxious) jeans are meant for women. We gave up the girdles and the corsets generations ago - why would we want to cinch in our bellies with jean?

So - hear me now, blogdom - I will not ever wear high waisted jeans again. I don't care if they are in style. It didn't seem to bother me the first time and I somehow doubt it will bother me again. They suck. I hate them. They are uncomfortable. I will not wear them. They'd better start making low waisted n stretch jean because when I'm ninety and heading to the home, I will not be wearing polyester anything and I certainly won't be making my entrance in a pair of high waisted jeans either.

Personally, I'm ambivalent to the low-waisted jeans. They are comfortable, but only if shirts are long enough to keep me from feeling a draft up my back every time I sit down. If we could keep the low jeans but bring back shirts that covered my back, that would be the best of fashion worlds.

I agree - and last spring when I went shopping for t-shirts I noticed that they are now making longer t-shirts. I bought a bunch in case that style goes out soon.

I don't like drafts either.
