Stupid Tech
Well...I'm back to that spot. You know the one - when you start a new job and you know nothing at all.
Oh, there's stuff I know - but I can't really use any of that right now. I probably will be able to eventually, but right now I need to learn other stuff. Lots of other stuff. And most of it is in an entire language I do not know. Everything is in acronyms and there are hierarchies I don't understand and standards I don't know anything about and I have no idea how this will relate to what I need to do.
When I first started working at my chosen profession - I often said I spent the first while feeling like 'stupid tech'. If someone came into the lab to ask a question I would panic and think - Please don't ask me anything!! I have no idea how to answer it!!! I'm Stupid Tech. Nice to meet you.
I'm back to being Stupid Tech. Everyone was very friendly and frankly, overjoyed to see me because I am filling a much needed position - but I am hoping that for awhile, they don't ask me any questions. Even though that's exactly what I was hired for.
I try to focus on remembering that at some point, way back when, the phone rang at the lab and I could answer the question on the other end of the line. And today - everyone asks me how to handle things - so I will get there. But it might be a steep learning curve.

I hate that "stupid tech" feeling!
Considering the brilliance of your theatrical abilities, here's to hoping you fake it well until such time that you feel more comfortable!
And hey, if all else fails, you can make up your own silly meanings for all of the acronyms. If nothing else, it could go a long way in stress relief. :)

I'd just have to suppress the giggling everytime they used the acronyms.
